I've heard (an saw on wikipedia) that the ghost chili is the hottest pepper according to the scofield scale or whatever - and I think I believe it. However, I've also heard habaneros are the hottest. So...are people just wrong when they say habanero is, or are there different types of each, or is there a different measurement?
I'd just like a few sentences clarifying this from a few sources.
Thanks!
The ghost pepper wins this contest hands down. Habaneros are rated at 300,000 scofield units while the ghost pepper is rated at over 1,000,000. From a real world perspective I currently have a bottle of ghost pepper sauce in my kitchen and I'm certain it's hotter than a fresh habanero.
